So why are we planting a church in the East Bay?
(1) We want to boldly preach the gospel to renew individuals and through individuals to renew the greater community. We believe nothing else creates true heart transformation other than the gospel. And transformed people – who are humble, loving, full of integrity, service-oriented – will renew the culture. In this way, we hope to be a “city on a hill,” a preserving salt and light in the East Bay.
(2) We are doing this in obedience to the Great Commission of Jesus – “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20). Notice this is a call, not just to make Christians, but to baptize them, meaning incorporate them into the life of the church.
(3) We believe the most effective way to reach non-Christians is through church plants. Unlike more established churches, new churches must attract new believers and be outward-facing in order to survive – being evangelistic is built into the very DNA of a church plant. And because we are a new congregation, we are better positioned to reflect the changing cultural sensibilities of Bay Area residents, especially the younger generation.
